- About me
I went to school in Minneapolis for Jewelry making and repair. I spent some time in the repair business as an apprentice gold smith. I worked in stores in Sioux City and Sioux Falls. I worked for the best jewelry store in the state of MN in downtown Minneapolis MN.
After I left there I came up with the idea that would change my direction my life would go. I had never seen anyone set a stone in the pearl. Pearls are soft and you can dirll another hole into and glue in a stone. The only problem is that if you use a blue or a green stone it will look more like an eyeball. Then I thought I have never seen anyone run a string of pearls down form the pear.. I started to use Swarovski crystal pearl and drill extra holes in the pearls. In time I found a way to drill more than one hole into the pearl. I was now able ot make the clasp all out of pearls you can see no metal in my clasp design. I started working with the Swarovski Crystals and came up with the idea of being able to make a real three dimensional chandelier earrings. In it lastest form I can drill a Swarovski 8mm 5000 round crystal with an additional 16 holes into the crystal to make the chandlier earrings. Each earring has over 450 crystals per earring.
Now I have come up with a new weave design. I have used it on bracelets and earrings. Then one place where I worked said it would nice a a flag. Well I had some extra 8mm crystals that I had set aside for another project. I decided to remake the flag out of Swarovski 8mm 5301 bicones. There are over 950 crystals in the US Flag. Now I am trying to creat a picture of out Swarofvski 6mm 5301 crystals. The picture will be a foot square, and have a boarder around the outside, and have over 2,000 crystals in it. I like the challenge that awaits me. I do not now where my ideas will take me and I try to remain open for new ideas.
The one other idea is to drill the holes bigger in the Swarovski pearls, so they can be sliped over an swimsuit for pageants it add a small aamount of elegance to the swimsuit.
- Experience and Creativity
I have now been working with swarovski crystals and pearls now for over six years. Every thing that I have desing I have tought myself. Like I said before I did go to school for jewelry making and repair. At one of my stops a fellow goldsmith offered to teach me how to string some pearls I declined. I believe that not having a real backgound in crystals and pearls has helped me. When I started to drill extra holes into crystals and pearls I had no one around me to tell me it can not be done. I will go where the designs take me.
- Fields of Creativity
I am very creative in a number of fields. I have said all ready I was an goldsmith. I have done some woodworking. I was working on wood jewerly when I came up with the idea of setting a stone inside a pearl. I had a one time friend ask me if I could me a barbie size doll out of wood, and using a lathe, and some other tools I did. I have worked with mirrors and stain glass in the past was well. When I came up with the idea of putting mirrors on a cross. This is still my all time best design I will ever come up with.
- Favorite Movies and Books
I like most of Disney animation movies, but think they need to find a good ballance point between CGI and cell format to make movies. When going to school I wanted to make limited additions of the jewelry worn in the animated movies. Around Christmas I enjoy the classics such as Die Hard 1 and 2, and Lethal Weapon one. And as for books I belong to Audible book club. Right now I am listing to Vince Flynn Consent to Kill. And as for music I would say contemporary christian music with the big two, Amy Grant and Michael W Smith. Now sorry to say most of my money goes to buying crystals rather then getting new music.
