About me

I think is uncomfortable to describe myself. I am just another human being in this world working to have my own spiritual mission accomplished to the fullest as possible.

 

I'd rather to let people make their own assumptions about who I am...my work is my best  mirror.

Experience and Creativity

I have been working in the jewelry industry for the last 9 years.

I started pearl stringing using the knotter tool and used to offered that service to local jewelers in the Albuquerque-New Mexico area.

 

In 2005 I was profiled by Women's Wear Daily -Dallas as a "designer to watch" and by the time I had a show room at the WTD-Dallas representing my jewelry line.

 

My designs have been published by several magazines, like Step by Step, Stringing and Simply Beads.

 

My piece "Tropicalia Diva" was published in the boook "Design Expressions from  Brazil & Russia" an initiative by Swarovski.

 

In 2008, I  co-authored the boook "Bead and Wire Jewelry Exposed" published by North Light Books an inprint of FW Publications Inc.  I collaborated with several designs for the books :"Earrings, earrings, earrings!" and "Four Seasons of Beading" both published by DRG Pubs.

 

Throughout of the last 6 years I have created one-of-a-kind pieces for Beadalon, Create Your Style, Eurotool, Murano Glass, John Bead Corporation and Paula Radke Dichroics and jewelry collections for "Made by Me Jewelry" and "Touchstone Crystal"as well.

I have my own jewelry collection that can be seen at my website - www.dasilvajewelry.com - and twice a year I host private jewelry shows for my personal customers.

 

I am a CREATE YOUR STYLE with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Ambassador and have been teaching at the CREATE YOUR STYLE Show in Tucson for the last 3 years.

 

I am the author of "Modern Expressions - making fabulous and fashionable jewelry" and I was honored to have my first solo book featured in the "Hot List" of of Harper's Bazaar (Feb, 2011).

 

Hobbies and Interests

Reading, writing, listening to music, pop art, cooking and traveling.

Fields of Creativity

Fashion jewelry, interior design, cooking and event planning.

Favorite Movies and Books

I love many kinds of music but specially female vocalists.

I love the work of Gal Costa and Maria Bethania, two Brazilian divas.

 

Other voices that I am attracted to are: Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minelli, India Arie, Cristina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Marisa Monte, Clara Nunes, among others.

 

I love so many movies that is easy to mention the genres that I don't  have patiente to watch at all like: stupid movies, cartoons and horror.

Retrospective

Oh goodness....half of the year is gone. I had a pretty busy schedule and did not make the time to post here my  agenda of events. After Crfat and Hobby Association (Winter)  and Tucson, I headed to Birminhgan (UK) to assist Beadalon during the Craft and Stitch Show. It was my firts time in UK and first time at that show ever.

TBTB demos in Tucson, 2011

I was requested to create two demo pieces for John Bead Corporation during the TBTB Tucson Show.  I created both designs inpired by Valentine's. The piece featured in the picture uses only ruby flat briolette pendants, article # 6012. It was very well received maybe because of its simplicity. It's an easy project and gives instant satisfaction to somebody who has just stepped into the arts and craft world.

Successful book launching

  My appearance at CHA Winter Show in Los Angeles this year was fast and furious. I was there just for 3 events scheduled on the same day (Saturday, first day of the show) and did not have time to walk the floor and check out what's was going on.

Spotlighted by Harper's Bazaar

  Back in 2005 I had few pieces of my jewelry collection featured on Women's Wear Daily-Dallas and 2 months later of that same year, WWD highlighted me as a "designer to watch". At the time I was represented by a showroom at the World Trade Center in Dallas but that did not last long.   I kept doing my private shows and had two great local galleries carrying my line. Once I moved to East Coast my work focused on the diy segment and has been since then.

 I am writing a post on my blog about the training...it's not current but I believe each of us have something to say. Once is ready I will re post here.
