- About me
I have always had the influence of the arts in my life. I spent every other summer in Japan visting my grandmother and my cousins. I was surrounded with music, the art of tea ceremony and so much more. I started off with beaded animal kits made from craft wire and seed beads as a way pass the time.
After traveling the through the world of crafting, I eventually came back to beading in my adult years. I primarily started to create jewelry as a way to escape the corporate world and my job as a Finance Manager. Once I started creating, there was no stopping! Once I found CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements, that is when the real fun began!
I left the corporate world in 2006 and opened a bead store called The Bead & Wire Shop in Seekonk, MA with my husband David. www.beadandwire.com I wanted to open the kind of store that I would always want to shop in, if I were a beader. I also figured I would have more time to create my projects. I quickly found that I spend less time in the studio than I did before!
I have been very fortunate to have met so many wonderful people through the store. I love to teach in the store. It is wonderful to see the look on the faces of students when they have completed what they thought was an impossible project.
In the most recent years, I have been able to devote more time to creating both pieces and new class projects. I was thrilled to be able to teach my crystal cocktail ring in Tucson this past February. I met so many great people there. I was also given the honor of becoming a CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements Amabassaor this year.
- Experience and Creativity
I am a primarily self taught artist. I love to take classes though. I believe that even the most advanced artist can learn something new by taking a class. I started mostly with chainmaille. I think I liked the strength in the patterns the rings make.
I primarily work in everything! I can't seem to just pick one. Wire is one of my favorites. I mainly create using square wire and a technique usually known as wire sculpture. I love to create new designs using traditional wire wrapping techniques. I also absolutely love the peyote stitch, bead embroidery and I am also certified in PMC. I have recently learned to lampwork from my wonderful friend Kate Fowle Melaney, but I can't bring myself to add another medium to my studio! I don't have enough room as it is!
Since, I have my hands in many things, I love to mix them all together. I like to take my stitching or bead embroidery and incorporate wire working into it in some way.
The one main constant in all my pieces is generally some type of CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Element! It is just not anything without bling. I mainly love fancy stones and figuring out a way to use them since they don't have holes for stringing.
I love New England, especially in the fall. I get most of my inspiration during this time of year. The colors, textures and patterns are wonderful.
- Hobbies and Interests
I have dabbled in many other hobbies from painting to counted cross stitch. Jewelry is always my favorite! I love to cook and I am a Food Network junkie. I have also spent much of my life involved in the geneology of my father's family. I also love to travel and I wish I was able to do it more often!
- Fields of Creativity
- Favorite Movies and Books
I have always been an avid reader (that is what drives my creativity) and I am always a sucker for a good movie. I have been a longtime fan of anything by Anne Rice. I love her ability to take historical information and create a whole new world from it. Harry Potter novels are also among my favorites as well. My favorite movies would have to be Breakfast at Tiffany's, Pretty in Pink (who doesn't like Andrew McCarthy), Emma and the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
