Navy Blue Set

Description

Navy blue is an interesting color, it's something that I feel I must have when I see it. But to make jewellery with it is quite complicated because it doesn't seem to go with any other color. This brooch is the first piece of jewelry I made with navy blue. Finished the necklace and earrings just recently to match.

Have you used navy blue color?

The Jewel Of the Northen Sea

Added
by Katrin mdmB, Thu, 01/01/1970 - 01:00
Description

"Inspired of the calmness of the northern seafront and the sharp rocks that ascend from the coastline. Versatile and yet simple in its essence. Rhinestones with calm colors and incisive facets are softened by beautiful pearls, reminding the forgotten magic of the fairytales, glorious days that once left the humankind..."

This is my contest piece to the Sea themed competition. I used many bead caps and filigree plates. All metal findings are copper plated base metal.  I assembled rhinestone headpins and rondelles from settings, wire and rhinestones.

Blue Heavens

Description
Lately I have a thing about blue rhinestones. I'm sure it will change some day, but right now I'm so fond of the wide range of blues. Another thing that I absolutely like, is opal color so when I purchased Blue Opal rhinestones I almost went out of my mind for joy :)
I thought that Blue Opal is something like White Opal Air Blue, but when these rhinestones are side by side, they seem so different. Blue Opal seems much warmer, with yellow glow. So therefore I couldn't use White Opal Air Blue beads and had to find glass beads instead. This time I made a lot of rondelles. Since I havent found swarovski rondells in copper color I ordered little settings from Germany and used wire to assemble them. Lots of glass pearls and different copper plated findings :)

Seedpearls and glass

Added
by Katrin mdmB, Thu, 01/01/1970 - 01:00
Description

I've been searching for glass pearls in size 2mm for a long time. I managed to get my hands on a hank of vintage pearls, made in Japan in 1950 or before that.

Finding that those vintage pearls go well with new Czech glass pearls in bright mink color, I made a pair of earrings and a matching necklace. Little 12ss size rose montees with swarovski crystal AB (I wish I could have them in copper plated settings!), faceted large glass beads and other glass beads, some with AB coating.

Pink Pearl Set

Added
by Katrin mdmB, Thu, 01/01/1970 - 01:00
Description

This is my attempt to use gold color metal findings (instead the copper color I'm more used to). It came out very bright in color, so it was difficult to photograph. Very fancy, suitable for theatre maybe Laughing Idea to use seedbeads that way came from vintage costume jewelry brand Miriam Haskell. My first try to use box clasp with prongs. I got them by chance, one shop had these for a moment and with no plan to reorder, and I bought all they had! I should order matching perforated discs for these (I managed to use here stamped filigree plate but perforated discs are better - easier to attach).

Morion Star Brooch

Added
by Katrin mdmB, Thu, 01/01/1970 - 01:00
Description

Morion is the color that I searched for a long time on eBay. I had to see it with my own eyes because from the photos it looked sometimes grey and sometimes blue. I was thrilled I got these 8x3mm navettes but I was a bit worried of the fact that my settings were for navettes in size 8x4mm, but I managed to fit them anyway.

So this is the brooch with morion navettes and crystal rhinestone core. I made the brooch motif with a single piece of wire. The brooch is a bit domed and a bit flexible (I didn't have a suitable stamped filigree plate that I usually put behind the motif).

I love the color, it's the color of the midnight sky :)
