The “Modern Mermaid” was inspired by Frank Gehry. The idea behind the color combination came from his buildings; they are colors that I believe help to enhance form and shape which creates space and texture within it. The copper and silver tones were inspired by the Guggenheim Museum in Spain and the colors of reflections you are able to see on numerous other buildings designed by Frank Gehry.  The overall shape of the necklace derives from the motion I pictured of a mermaid coming up out of the ocean. This too was inspired by a quote from Frank Gehry; “… Greek temples are anthropomorphic 3 million years before man was fish, if you gotta go back, if that’s where you gotta go; if you’re insecure about going forward, go back go back 300 million years, why stop at the Greeks.” (Sketches of Frank Gehry - 2006) This quote was the core inspiration for such rich colors and shapes; I wanted to translate the movement of the ocean and its peacefulness as well as the attraction.
