I'm trying to understand your question so I can answer correctly....you want to solder a Swarovski crystal into a metal setting? Or do you want to solder a setting to something else that has a Swarovski crystal in it?
if it's the first you can't solder a crystal to a setting. if it's the second you also can't... you can probably weld it together using a laser welder. A solder torch will damage the crystal. I hope this answers your question. If you need more info please let me know
Hi Coleen, thanks for posting your question regarding soldering crystal stone settings.
The crystal stone settings can be affixed together with a low temperature soldering iron and solder. Don't try to use a flame and standard silver solder, you will damage the crystals. I'm looking for an instruction sheet to help you....I'll post a link as soon as I can find it.

maybe with a smith torch..... because it's fast and will heat the metal and solder quickly and it's heat is specified just to the spot you're heating and not the crystal.
Yeah we have a lot of equipment here at the studio. of course when i graduate i won't be so lucky.
**EDIT: Spoke with a professor, as long as you use a smith torch or a small flame torch then you can solder the metal w/o over heating the crystal. But there's no gurantee it won't crack or something... but also to let you know the heat will change the color of the crystal a bit. It will become duller and won't be as sparkly. let us know what you've done.
i've been looking for a way to connect the metal settings of
swarovski crystals together to design unique jewelry. Someone suggested a
low-temp soldering iron and I'm wondering if this is feasible, because
later, others suggested a flame while leaving out the crystals and
placing them in after soldering.
That was a great suggestion to solder the metal together, first, then prong-in the crystals after it's cooled.
If it's possible to use a low-temp iron, what would be the best materials to use to join the metal settings together?

With low temp soldering on the brass settings with the crystals intact. I've watched demonstrations of the exact technique using cupchain findings. The pieces then need to be plated, though, to cover up the solder.
I'm sure any number of plating houses can help you with that.

Diane you are right Low temp soldering is very effective specially for delicate cup-chains. Now to plate is actually easier than most of us think I do my own plating I use a pen plate kit and it works fine for me and no harmful fumes. But if you have a large quantity then surely look for a local plating house to do it.
